Asus W5F notebook review

I thought I might share my experience since purchasing this notebook a few days ago.
The specs are:

colour: white

Core 2 duo 1.86 T5600
1gb RAM
100GB HDD
12.1 widescreen glossy
1.3megapixel rotatable camera
6cell batteryinbuilt dual layer dvdrw
3 usb, 1 firewire, gigabit lan, modem, sd/mmc/ms pro reader, express card slot, vga out
weight: 1.59kg (from the website at least... i don't have scales to test it)

came with both a wetsuit type of material case and also a standard asus targus case and all the cds and etc etc

The installation at the very beginning took quite a long time, maybe because i was running it from battery. But anyhow, when i received the computer and turned it on, it asked me for what version of windows i wanted to be installed (english, chinese etc) so after picking English, it began running a type of restore and installed all the drivers and everything. Of course, it came with alot of useless programs but it came with one Power program whereby u press a button on the notebook and it changes the power settings/profiles which is quite useful.

Anyhow, the glossy screen is very nice, and the brightness is brilliant. The inbuilt 1.3megapixel camera is quite crap. It's very pixelated and you need quite a lot of brightness and this can't be adjusted.... i'm hoping that i might be able to find a different driver that might fix this, but at the moment, it's probably a uselss feature nonetheless.

The fan was good when you're not running memory/cpu intensive programs. It was barely over a whisper. The heat it dissipated on my palms isn't bad either, it was not much warmer whilst playing games. There's also a fan to dissipate heat that blows out towards the right hand side, so if u're playing games in winter it'll warm your mouse hand up =)

After a LAN session at soh's house. I'm quite happy. The wireless is easy to use and is very strong. Even though the case is made out of a somewhat plastic-y type of material and feel, it's nonetheless quite nice :)

For just under $2000 (bought overseas of course), i'm glad to have finally come to the decision of buying this notebook =)

victims

do people really care ?
or is this world coming to an end ?
is justice prevailing ?
or is our sense of judgement failing ?

has time erased all the pain ?
all the hurt that it has caused?
has life been created
for this purpose at all?

why do we always see kids crying ?
yet never stop to understand why ?
why do calls for help with violence get ignored?
what consequences would it possibly bring?

the police are useless.....

Update

Sooooooooooo what's been happening in this boring life of mine lately hehe.
let's see........... well, as you all might know, i'm currently starting to work at good ol' ANZ, and it's been quite relaxing and boring. Let's see what i've been upto this week at work.

Monday 11th, i got to work and got to meet everyone in my area, sat around, learnt how everything works around the building etc. I have 2 managers. One is my immediate manager Brendan who reports to my overall manager Keli. Brendan's really easy going and was showing me what he does etc so that took up my day.

Tuesday 12th, we had our orientation program where we met all the interns and i realised i knew one of them~!!~!~ =p Jeannie~! hehe and also, in my group meeting, 4 out of the 6 got in too. So it was nice to sorta see familiar faces. So, anyway it was all about getting to know people, we split up in groups and did a scavenger hunt all over the melbourne ANZ offices, although it was a silly idea, it was actually quite good coz we got to know people in our groups quite well. After work, went to Clara's gig =) It was really good! =p

Wednesday 13th, i spent most of this day trying to get msn working and getting all the people i met on Tuesday on my list. Also emailed everyone and kept in contact hehe. The interent's strict at work, so i can't get to any external mail nor can i use msn that's external, so there's only an internal msn exchange for ANZ staff. So anyhow, i spent the rest of the day just formatting a document from 5 pages to 2, WOAHHHHHH so much hard work eh? =p

Thursday 14th, I can't remember what i did but i didn't do much! =p

Friday 15th, watched a movie in the morning at work. "An inconvenient truth"

I must admit. This film is a work of art. Not only was I interested right from the start, but time flew and I was not only intellectually stimulated but also emotionally. The facts and truths that this film portrays to the audience hits you right where you find it uncomfortable. A sad and depressing truth. For those who don't know what this film is about, it's basically a film written by Al Gore, who was to be US president. Throughout this film, it tells us of how baiscally, our world is coming to an end, and how we're killing our earth and how global warming is going to be an issue. Now at this point you might think "omg not another global warming issue", but it's actuallly quite serious.... and until you watch this film, you might not know about the true extent to how much it's going to affect us preetttyyy soon. So as my own personal decision, i'll be NOT leaving my computer on 24/7 anymore.......... you're prolly like "WHAT? ERIC NOT ON MSN 24/7?" that's right..... keep the planet green and cool ppl!!~!~anyhow, ANZ is participating in reducing greenhouse gases etc so we all watched that and then we had our big Technology BBQ and that was cool, catered bbq, with drinks and alco, but the alco was crap, so didn't drink much. Played frisbee with the other interns but the frisbee didn't seem to work very well, or it could just be me not throwing it very well....

Friday night: Farewell for good ol crazy Daf. Daf is leaving us on Sunday~!~! Forever!~~! So we decided to go karaoke. At first when we got there and only she and some others were singing i was thinking "sigh karaoke is not good, never did it for me, never will" so i sat there in silence while soh drank his black V to keep himself awake since he ain't drinking and he needs to drive. Dave dave decided that a good start to the night was a whisky shot, so i joined him, made my throat very warm, but yeah, anyhow, i bumped into Susan at Karaoke, and she was in another room with a bunch full of people that i sorta know too =) Bel was there, and Gaz was there too haha oh and Kai, and someone named Monica who i'm meant to know but i didnt, so anyhow, i was jumpin from room to room which was fun. At around 3am, i just couldn't be bothered anymore coz i woke up at 7 for work so i'd been awake for 17 hours, and although singing was fun, i didn't wanna pump myself of alcohol to keep myself entertained. Too many people smoking and yeah, u get the point. =p But yeah, Daf again, was crazy and her singing was crazy too, can't believe she can hit such high notes and never get tired and keep singing, hardcore mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Justin came and left and came again hahah coz he went drinking with a friend who came back for a week, Louise, and so they went drinking and came back to K. I attempted to sing a Jay Chou song with him, only to find myself mumbling coz i dunno the words =p

So here comes Sat morning, what do i have ahead of me. I need to do my laundry, pick up my dry cleaning, clean the house a little, watch cricket (most importantly) and ummmm, ummmm, yerrrrrr i dunno... what else.....prolly jsut getting organised.... oh Eddie's 21st tonight so gotta try and make that :) All good =p

So there we have it, 1 movie review, and 1 weekly review of my boring week. peace out =p, keep it green boyz n girlz

Here i am

Hmmmm,

i wish i was in a different area!!~!~ arghhhhh

if you don't know what i'm talking about, i mean at work, it's soo boring in my area, maybe becasue i don't have anything to do at the moment, but the other interns all seem to be busy and having fun or doing work. Meanwhile, i sit on my butt reading these manuals.

--------

3.1 Request Acceptance

The main goal of this task is to ensure that the AIS integration staff will receive all the requisite information and resources presented in the standard format. Integration staff will be able to complete their tasks without undue external reference.
3.1.1 Acceptance Criteria

An application must meet several criteria before it can be accepted for integration. The application owner must provide all installation media required for installation. The application owner must also provide electronic documentation containing the following:
• AHD Work request, BSB and Cost Centre information.
• Full installation instructions.
• Full functionality testing criteria.
• Details of application development and support liaison contacts as necessary.
• Proof of the application’s Windows 2000 and Year 2000 compliance, preferably including URLs to the manufacturer’s website.

Each application not meeting Windows 2000 or Year 2000 compliance requirements will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. There must be business justification for such an application’s use and there must be no compliant alternative available.
3.1.2 Package Creation

Once these criteria are met, and it has been ascertained that the application has not already been packaged under another name, the application request is assigned an appropriate package name, as defined in the Package Naming Convention documentation. The package is added to the AIS Packaging Database and full details

So anyway, i'm looking forward to the break. I mean, if i had stuff to do i wouldn't be so bored, and if my email was accessible (which it isn't) i wouldn't be so bored... sigh :( another hour to go
